How Do I Know My Boiler Is Non-Condensing?

Without consulting a professional, check any of the three signs of a non-condensing boiler as mentioned below:

Boiler Age

If your boiler was installed before 2005, it is most likely a non-condensing boiler.

Boiler Efficiency

If your boiler has an ErP of 84.6% or below, it is likely a non-condensing one. A condensing boiler has efficiency higher than 92%.

Pipe Beneath Boiler

Condensing boilers usually have a white plastic pipe underneath it along with copper pipes. Non-condensing boilers do not have white plastic pipe because they do not produce condensed water when running.

What Types of Boilers Can Be Replaced?

For replacing an old inefficient boiler with a new model, your existing boiler should be non-condensing that is too old with efficiency less than 84.6%. Usually, following heating system can be replaced with boiler under the ECO4 scheme

Back Boilers

They are highly inefficient and outdated now.

Floor-standing Boilers

They take up extra floor space and are not modern.

Storage Heaters

Only store heat overnight, so waste a lot of heat when not needed.

Wood/biomass Heaters

They generate more carbon emissions than vehicles.
